Sony Handycam Dcr-hc483 + Firewire = Nothing

My USB ports are damaged but the FireWire port still works. The only other think I can think of at this point is that MovieMaker is not configured to use (or recognize) the firewire port. At shutdown you're getting a black screen and it's taking a few seconds longer than what you're used to.
