The other option would be replacing the hard drive which IMO is the best choice if you wish to continue using the computer. We can get around a hard drive or OS related issue by using a CD/DVD or USB bootable version of linux. You have to do it in the 'normal' mode - this is a stress test for your GPU so we can see if its a hardware of software problem. I will post back with a graphics card testing tool.
