After uninstalling and reinstalling Norton it worked with the FF for this one session, but after restarting the PC it was the same again. The replicating process only occurs on Windows XP so far. pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL has NO effect any more!! Managed to install process viewer which works fine but still think somethings wrong as taskmanager is still non existant - even browsing to system32 and manually clicking on it doesnt work

You can't just assign blame.  What needs to happen is the FF people and the Norton people need to work together to fix this.  You can't actually blame Mozilla for this

You have to have (according to these reports) FF 51+ AND Norton AND XP.

Reminds me of a problem I had in win2k a while back, mysteriously I could no longer open any property page, but hours later I would get spawns of MFC or So FF 52 will be the last version for FF for xp.
