Entered the boot menu at start up, selected my cd-rom drive as the first boot option, then my cd-rom as the boot device, cleaned the install cd, and presto. Please try again now or at a later time. It wouldn't even run regedit, just gave an error message like "command could not be completed" or somesuch.

ThangX for sharing your find. I replaced the Rom Drive and that worked... Short of screaming and smashing this lump of plastic i gave up and slammed the Cd rom drive shut for the final time. Even when the XP disc is inside and the CD Drive is set to boot first, it no longer displays "Enter any key to boot off CD" message.

My computer cddvd wasn't working so microsoft said to reboot. If you cannot load the MSCDEXNT command from the command prompt then run regedit from the command prompt.
